Project Description
This ADU was designed for the owner’s son and his family and is attached to an existing workshop on the property. The primary request was to include a second floor for additional storage, so a functional loft was integrated into the design.

One of the main challenges was meeting the City of Palo Alto’s strict daylight plane requirements, which shaped the unique massing and gave the ADU its distinctive colonial-inspired appearance. The final result is a comfortable, family-friendly living space that maximizes usability while respecting local zoning constraints and harmonizing with the existing structures on site.
